The Leprechaun
Leprechaun 4: In Space is a disappointment in the Leprechaun horror film franchise. Yes, it's set in space, but that's precisely what makes it so mind-numbingly fantastic. An excellent illustration of how an absurd concept may be elevated to something really "unique" is seen in Leprechaun 4. The movie is chock-full of realistic effects, imaginative killings, and Leprechaun lines that will have you rolling on the floor. It's a must-see for fans of the Leprechaun series or horror films in general, but it's not only for them.
Pinhead
As a precursor and a sequel, Hellraiser: Bloodline is an interesting addition to the franchise. The plot covers three separate historical periods: the 1700s, the 1990s, and the 2200s. Honestly, I didn't have big hopes for the fourth film in the series, and to be honest, the only reason I'm watching is to see more of Pinhead and the Cenobites. It is always a delight to watch Doug Bradley play because he retains that chilly, menacing, and demonic vibe. This makes no logic and is tough to understand, but who cares about any of those things? Even if you've watched the whole Hellraiser series, you should still see Bloodline for the frightening parts with Pinhead. If you loved Hellraiser or any of the other works by Clive Barker, you should check out this one for sure. Even though there isn't a whole lot of logic to it, it's still a tremendously interesting ride.
Critters
The intergalactic setting of Critters 4 drew me in. How could they top the previous Critters flicks, really? The cast list wasn't to my taste. Brad Dourif Astrid Bergman Anders Hove, an actor from Denmark? It didn't seem to be feasible.
And my worst worries were realized while seeing Critters 4. The plot was poor, the characters were terrible, and the setting was a rip-off of other properties. From a fan's standpoint, what hurts the most is that the elements that made the prior installments distinctive and fun are either totally eliminated or absent. Critters 4 is a terrible disaster and a major letdown.
Dracula
One of the very few awful horror films that is so horrible it's almost unwatchable is Dracula 3000. I adore detesting Dracula 3000. Even though it's terrible the whole time, my primary complaint is that the finale was a complete cop-out and left me feeling absolutely disappointed. "Dracula in Space" wasn't as horrible as I had imagined it would be; rather, it was dreadful. The concept is interesting, but the performance is poor, and the conversation is intolerably annoying. If you want to have a bad day, I suggest viewing it.
Coolio, too. Coolio is in it. Did I mention that before?
Jason Voorhees
The most well-known horror movie sequel in which the antagonist travels to the stars is Jason X. This is Jason Voorhees, the man, the myth, and the legend. How he got into space, it doesn't matter. Nobody wants to know why he's up there. In the end, it doesn't matter where Jason is in space or what he plans to do.
I think Jason X is entertaining to watch for the transformation of Jason into Uber Jason as well as the Easter eggs and throwbacks to prior Friday the 13th flicks.
Although this film isn't for everyone, aficionados of campy, cheesy slasher flicks will like it.
